Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
Focusing on the water-stressed countries of Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan) as well as Türkiye and Azerbaijan, FAO has conducted a regional project titled “Supporting Water Policy in Central Asian Agri-food Sector with Emphasis on Climate Change Impact”. The project was centered around the enhancement of water sector policies, regional dialogue and the implementation of water governance reforms, with a key emphasis on social inclusion and integrating gender considerations.
adelphi research provided its expertise in approaching and framing the execution of country-level governance assessments with the sequential selection, targeted support and compilation of complete model cases across the seven recipient countries. Central to the task was the development of a harmonized research methodology that will guide the governance assessments. This standardized approach ensured consistency and comparability across diverse contexts. Additionally, adelphi research created a number of templates tailored to each individual country assessment. These templates not only streamlined and standardized the assessment process but also ensured that the essential components of water governance were effectively captured.
Further contributions of adelphi research include stakeholder mapping and analysis as well as an overall assessment report on water governance in the region with lessons, challenges and recommendations for policy improvements.
By collaborating closely, FAO and adelphi research have catalysed transformative change in water governance.
