Constellations of conflicts, and the raw material-related conflicts that result from them, are varied and complex. This research report examines various stakeholder groups’ approaches to minimising these risks – from the state and EU levels all the way to the multilateral level. The goal is to provide an overview of important and innovative approaches, to evaluate each of these and to summarise potentials and deficits in the handling of risk constellations.
The first stage of this is to take account of approaches which deal with violent conflicts in producer countries, before taking a look at those approaches which, via state or private sector environmental, climate or resource policy, can take hold of conflict risks. This principally means raw material supply risks, crisis and security risks, and environmental risks.
