The EU-funded RESIST project focuses on co-developing climate adaptation solutions, innovations and technologies to increase resilience in four frontrunner and eight twinning regions. Analysing the status quo of climate adaptation in the regions, their challenges and needs provides the basis for designing innovative adaptation solutions and enabling successful transfer between regions. Examining the baseline from which the regions are starting as well as identifying capacity constraints and support possibilities is a core component of the RESIST project.
The deliverable presents the results of this needs assessment for the four leading regions Southwest Finland, Central Denmark, Catalonia and Centro Portugal, and the eight twinning regions Normandy, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Blekinge, Zemgale, Baixo Alentejo, Puglia, Extremadura, and Vesterålen. It gives a comprehensive overview of the challenges these regions are facing in realising effective climate change adaptation activities as well as of the expertise they are bringing into the project to overcome these challenges. The analysis shows that the regions, on the one hand, differ in specific needs and individual support activities but that, on the other hand, many challenges encountered are shared among regions and so numerous paths for transfer and knowledge exchange exist.
