Germany wants to become greenhouse gas neutral by the year 2050. At the same time, primary energy consumption is to be halved by 2050 compared to 2008. In order to achieve these goals, a massive push in increasing energy efficiency is necessary. 

Since its publication in 2011, the ISO 50001 standard has established itself as an international standard for energy management. Compared to the first edition, this guideline has been fundamentally revised. Using concrete recommendations and a large number of practical examples, it shows how companies and other organizations can introduce an effective energy management system in accordance with DIN EN ISO 50001:2018 on the basis of an energy audit. Excursions will explain the additional requirements for EMAS environmental management. For companies and organisations that initially want to test with manageable effort whether an energy management system is worthwhile for them, there is a  "trial run energy management" described in the guide.

The new version available here is an updated and fundamentally revised version. In contrast to the first version, the reader is no longer guided by the structure of the ISO 50001 standard, but chronologically from the execution of an energy audit via the introduction of an energy management system to the implementation of measures and certification of the management system. The guide contains numerous recommendations, some of which go beyond the requirements of the standard, but are nevertheless helpful in achieving a high level of effectiveness and a company success-oriented approach to EnMS.
