Energy Management Systems in Practice 2012

Germany’s goal is to reduce its primary energy consumption by 20 percent until 2020 and by 50 percent until 2050 compared to its consumption in 2008. However, this goal will not be reached unless the energy efficiency is increased considerably. A systematic energy management is a suitable instrument with which energy efficiency in companies and organisations can be increased continuously. The achievable cost savings strengthen the competitiveness of companies. For the first time, the ISO 50001 standard, which was published in June 2011 and replaces the European standard EN 16001 establishes international standards for an energy management system. The precursor, the European standard EN 16001, already contributed to significant energy savings in German companies.
