Promoting the export of environmental and efficiency-boosting technologies

Various initiatives have been launched in Germany in recent years to strengthen exports of environmental and efficiency-boosting technologies, including the Renewable Energies Export Initiative, the German Water Partnership and the Recycling and Efficiency Technology Export Initiative. The additional initiatives have helped strengthen the associated exports, but they have also made the system of export promotion increasingly complex.

Against that background, the aim of the study was to evaluate export promotion measures for environmental and efficiency-boosting technologies. Based on an identification of fundamental problem areas, it set out to devise new approaches to export promotion. The starting point of the study was a theoretical overview of the circumstances justifying state intervention in the field of environmental technology exports. Other sections included case studies relating to individual export promotion measures in the United Kingdom, the USA and China. Moreover, a separate study investigated the aspect of environmental policy export as the foundation for strengthening environmental technology exports.
